Abacus Racing and Lux Racing join forces for Matt Lux’s 2026 Chili Bowl entry.
INDIANAPOLIS, December 15, 2025 — In a relationship that pre-dates Abacus Racing’s existence, Lux Racing announced today that it will join forces with the USAC Triple Crown winning team in an entry for the 2026 Chili Bown in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Driving the #5L Indy Custom Stone sponsored car will be Manilla, Indiana native Matt Lux.
Abacus Racing and Lux Racing have forged a bond on and off the racetrack over the last several years, but the foundation of the relationship started a long time ago with a friendship that is strong to this day.
John Lunsford, who is a partner in Abacus Racing, and Matt Lux have been friends for years, a relationship that started at the racetrack as well. Said Lunsford, “Matt and I use to race together in the Baby Grand Stock Car series when we were younger, which included my father Bob as the team owner. Matt and I became and are still friends, and he loved what I was doing with Abacus. Since starting Abacus, any time we happened to be racing at a track together, we would try to pit next to each other. With that, Matt and the team built a bond and relationship, so it was natural for us to work together at the Chili Bowl.”
It was a sentiment Lux confirmed, saying “John and I go way back. When I saw what they were doing at Abacus and what they had built, and John’s passion there, I could not help but become a fan. Then, to get to know Kirk (Simpson, Team Manager) and Daniel (Whitley, Crew Member) and see how they worked as a team with their driver Logan (Seavey) was something great to witness, but then you see the success they have built in a their short existence, it seemed natural to put together something for the Chili Bowl.”
Lux has built an impressive resume in his racing career having competed in TQ Midgets, Midgets on both dirt and pavement, Unlimited Modifieds, 305 Sprint Cars and Micros and Baby Grands, winning championships in both the Baby Grands Stock Car Association and All-Star Circuit of Champions TQ series.
Lux has spent the last 3 years in the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Series, finishing in the top 5 in points every year, and 2nd series points in 2025. It was during these years that Lux had his biggest racing accomplishment. Continued Lux, “I have had a fair amount of success in racing, but winning twice at Eldora with the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Series is at the top. Winning a championship in that series is my goal, but standing in victory lane at Eldora is something we all dream of as racers.”
Continued Lunsford, “Matt is a very good racer. He has worked hard over the years to build a championship winning team. And we when started talking about the Chili Bowl, it seemed natural to work together given Matt’s success as a racer, and our success as a team.”
Concluded Lux, “I am coming to Tulsa to compete against the best midget racers in the world. Anything I can do to help my chances to compete well I will do, and
partnering with the boys at Abacus seemed like a pretty good start in making the program better.”
Teammates to Lux at the Chili Bowl will be Woodbury, Connecticut’s Santino Ferrucci and Muskogee, Oklahoma’s Kaylee Bryson.
In addition to Indy Custom Stone, Lux’s entry will be sponsored by Mission Roofing, Indy Fuel, Audiology Associates, Drexel Interiors, Carrington Homes, Elbrecht Concrete, CG CPAs, FK Rod Ends, JLC Crop Protection, Beck Construction Co., Tempus Ag and Lynk Chassis.
The Chili Bowl Nationals begins on January 11, 2026 with practice, followed by five consecutive preliminary feature nights that ends with the final feature night on January 17, 2026. All nights of the Chili Bowl will be broadcast on FloRacing.
Abacus Racing is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and Lux Racing is headquartered in Fishers, Indiana.
